Germany—Certain New York banks
are getting the jitters over our
anti-Nazi demonstrations and boy-
cotts. They claim these will give
Germany an excuse to repudiate
all her private obligations to this
country and that Dr. Schacht—new
head of the Reichsbank—would
welcome the opportunity. Most es-
timates of short-term German ob-
ligations held by New York banks
have been exaggerated, but at the
repudiation would cost four banks
here $200,000,000.
  Dr. Luther’s appointment as am-
bassador to the United States got
him out of Germany and sent an
envoy here not subject to criticism
as a Nazi. Nazi or not, he is ex-
pected to obey orders implicitly.
